The alternator

The alternator is a mechanical element belonging to the motorization of vehicles composed of a coil and a magnet, allowing, among other things, the battery to start the engine. This is possible thanks to the electric current produced during its operation. Also, to ensure that their vehicle is operating optimally, drivers should regularly check the alternator. In addition, an automobile alternator overhaul is strongly recommended between 40,000 and 50,000 kilometers traveled because, in the event of a breakdown of their vehicle's alternator, road users will simply not be able to start their automobile.

The operation of the automobile alternator is based on a very simple physical principle, but which was not used by automobile manufacturers until the 1960s. The mechanism consists of a copper coil that the we wrap everything around a magnet. When the engine is running, the alternator belt pulls the coil with it, producing an electric current.

What role does it play in automobiles?
Contrary to what some drivers think, even when a vehicle's engine is stopped, electronic equipment remains powered up because it is powered by the battery. When the car is moving, the alternator is responsible for supplying the electrical energy necessary for the proper functioning of the engine and its accessories. In addition, it allows you to recharge the battery level during each trip. This is why the car alternator is an important mechanical element, which actively contributes to the proper functioning of the engine and the vehicle as a whole.
