The action of the steering wheel in the vehicle's steering system is very important, because it allows the driver's effort to be transformed into a rotational effort. In fact, the smaller the vehicle's turning radius, the easier it is to drive in town or on winding roads. The power steering has the effect of facilitating maneuvers for the driver by providing assistance to the torque applied to the steering wheel.

Power steering “assists” the car's mechanical steering system, but what exactly, or rather what parts, is it made up of?

The major parts that make up the steering system of a car are the steering wheel, the steering column and pinion, gimbals, the steering rack, rods, ball joints...

With or without power steering, these parts will always be present and needed. The centerpiece of a car's steering is the steering rack. It is she who receives the movement information transmitted by the steering wheel and which retransmits it to the wheels thanks to the steering rods and ball joint.

Moreover, the power steering system focuses on the assistance of the rack. It is this part and it alone which will be aided in its movement to facilitate turning of the wheels. The rest of the parts will follow the operation of the rack. So be aware that the power steering assists the steering rack.

When the steering wheel turns, the entire steering system comes into play. The rotation begins with the steering column, the universal joint and the steering pinion. This, starting to turn, drives the steering rack. In turn, this then activates the steering rods and ball joints to turn the wheels.
